A Donna Summer hit song reveals how a woman grows money: by working hard. A fifth grader, on the other hand, has his own practical version of achieving the same goal.
In a cute social media video of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, BDO Foundation and Department of Education, schoolchildren can learn to save money to buy their favorite thing by doing the steps shared by 10-year-old Jeff de Vera, a student of Magsaysay Elementary School. Literally.
From start to finish, the video shows footsteps on dirt passages and pavement as Jeff walks to school instead of taking the public transportation. In exchange for the 30-minute walk, he saves his fare money.
The boy also narrates other savings techniques, like cleaning the house of his grandmother, who pays him P50 for the help. And saving his godfather’s cash token.
At the end of the video, he had save enough to buy a cool electric scooter. Walking hard for the money is done. He then rides the scooter in going to school.
There’s no one-step solution to fulfilling one’s wish but the long walk can be worth it.
